Split Vice

We designed and manufactured a split vise for our CNC machine, developed in house to provide low profile, repeatable workholding for a range of parts. The main vise body is machined from solid aluminum billet, with all critical faces finished in a single setup to ensure alignment and parallelism under load.

The clamping system integrates Mitee-Bite Pitbull clamps, chosen for their high holding force and minimal footprint. Pitbull clamps use a cam action design with wedging surfaces that pull the workpiece down as they engage, increasing bite as cutting forces rise. Their design allows the vise to exert high clamp loads without adding bulk, making them ideal for tight toolpaths and complex setups.

Upper jaws are machined from brass to protect finished surfaces while providing secure grip. Decorative and functional surface milling on the jaws highlights both machine capability and attention to detail. Fasteners are recessed into countersunk pockets to keep the clamping area clear and compatible with close tool access.

This vise reflects our approach to tooling: precision machined, purpose designed, and visually considered. By integrating reliable modular clamping system like Pitbulls with clean geometry and refined material choices, the fixture supports accurate machining and serves as a showcase of our capability to engineer robust, compact shop fixtures.
