Lathe Tool Height Setter

A lathe tool height setter designed and built in-house to provide fast, repeatable tool alignment directly at the machine. The device is machined from solid brass and steel components, balancing mass, durability, and tactile precision. Its compact footprint allows it to sit comfortably on the cross slide without interfering with standard toolpost setups.

At the core is a high resolution dial indicator mounted on a rigid brass arm, allowing precise measurement relative to spindle centerline. The vertical adjustment column is threaded for fine control and locked once set, ensuring consistent reference height across tool changes. Broad brass feet provide stable contact on the machine ways, while the stepped geometry allows clearance around common lathe features.
